ONE COOL CAT: A STREET CAT NAMED BOB

I only just discovered this fantastic book a little more than 4 weeks ago. If you are a lover of pets and how they can keep us going when humans fall short of  giving us the unconditional love and support that we all need to keep on going, then give this book a very long peek.

James Bowen was a recovering drug addict in London in 2007 when he first met Bob. Poor Bob had a serious paw injury, and could scarcely walk. After James noticed that nobody was offering any help he took matters into his own hands and made sure Bob got a proper visit and treatment to a vet, and Bob was on the mend within 2 weeks.

The rest is history. James is clean and sober, and Bob is a national celebrity. Several best-selling books, a popular movie about their special bond which was released in 2016, plus several charity foundations for homeless people and stray cats and dogs.

And all because one wounded cat and a damaged human saw themselves in each other. I can't wait to see the movie! (Most public libraries have all the books and DVD.)

"I saved Bob and he saved me. He's a special little fellow." - James Bowen

  1. I've got that movie coming & plan to look at book(s)after viewing for the story from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

  2. You won't be disappointed. Read 3 books so far, and will be watching the DVD before the week is done. So-called animals are often more humane than so-called humans. Don't know much about horses, but I love it when they are wild and free...

  4. I've never heard of this book (or the movie) so I really appreciate the introduction. It sounds fantastic (and you know how much I like cats...).
It's encouraging to see something so uplifting - at a time when the world is filled with so much chaos and depressing things.

I'm glad that you're back in Blogland - I was worried about you.

    1. It's funny, I first thought of you when I found the book at the library. I know how much you love cats (as do I), so get the DVD at the very least!

I've only been back in Blogland for less than 2 days: Already so much bitterness and drama. But I'm not going to allow that to stop me from connecting with sane and decent people via social media.

I really do hope you and other folks will watch the DVD (I know so few people actually read books during these "modern" times). But Bob is special.

Thanks for the warm return :-)

    2. Dylan, I ALWAYS read "real" books - ones that are made of paper and actually have pages that can be turned. I loathe e-books (but many people disagree with me).

The hateful Trolls still visit my blog on occasion. During the past few weeks I had to delete several nasty comments.
This is why I value sweet, intelligent people like yourself.

  5. I think there's something special about real books: I always feel like I'm spending time with a true friend. In fact, books often are more honest friends than real people!

I guess I've resigned myself to the fact that there will always be a troll or two lurking out there. I just don't understand what sort of satisfaction somebody gets from behaving so badly.

Most people don't appreciate the value of silence: Today's world is all about ego and noise. I prefer the silence.

Sorry that the crazy/crazed trolls are still giving you such a hard time. You don't deserve it. Keep blogging :-)

  6. Just a quick mini-review of A Street Cat Named Bob. Bob is the star without a doubt (he performed most of the scenes himself), but most of the human actors gave equally flawless performances.

I also very much liked the soundtrack, and thought it helped to set the tone without being too obvious. If you love animals and have compassion for people dealing with homelessness and recovery (in a genuine way), then this sweet little gem of a film is a must see for you.

If Bob does not win an Academy award for his amazing performance, then something truly is daft in Hollywood. Four stars out of five.
