LETTING GO...

A new microwave
An old vase breaks on the floor
Treasure the present

Roy bought me a new microwave! It's twice the size of my old one, so I can now buy and cook food I was never able to cook before (microwave was way too small). This is really good news.

I thank you much, Mr. Roy!!

  1. The vase was from the 1920s, and I inherited it from my lover when he passed away in 1995. I had it shipped (from Chicago)and it's been with me since I moved to Portland in 1997.

I was quite sad to see it broken to pieces, but I think Kevin was sending me a message to appreciate what is here and now.

The pic is not of the actual vase, but it's very damn near the one I owned for almost 20 years.

Letting go is sometimes the best thing we can do in life. Look to the future - that's what I have finally learned big time.

  2. Hopefully the improved taste and nutrition from the variety of food now available with the new oven and my pleasure giving it can help with the loss of the treasured vase.

    1. I have several other things I inherited from Kevin which are still packed away in boxes! So maybe this will give me the courage and motivation I need to finally see what I have.

P.S. Methinks the first order of the day is to buy one or two of those Hungry Man TV dinners which were too huge to fit in the old (much too small) microwave :-)

  3. I'm so sorry to hear about the broken vase - especially since it had such intense sentimental value. I'm a shameless sentimentalist and fiercely (and perhaps foolishly) cling to things from the past.

The grim truth, however, is that tangible items are only fleeting. In one way or another, we will eventually lose them. I suppose the most valuable and important things we really have are our memories.

It's fantastic that you have a new, bigger microwave. Mine is getting old and I had to do some repairs on it. It really comes in handy for quick cooking. I would have trouble existing without it.

    1. Thanks, Jon. Like you I do tend to cling to things from the past: Old birthday and Christmas cards, long heart-felt letters from family and friends I lost decades ago. Plus special gifts and such. I really do need to learn to let go. I have too many boxes of things taking up much need space in my closets!

The new microwave is HUGE! I could (if I knew how) cook a turkey in it. Bigger is often better :-)

  4. Can I safely take it that you are NOT abandoning your blog as soon as I found it? I was hoping it wasn't something I said. lol

My new microwave is SO large that it resembles the original computer, but it has no problem holding anything round, square, or oblong. And the heat is outstanding....not that I would actually COOK something like raw meat in it. I desire color in my food.

    1. Dana, I just needed to take a break from blogging because I found myself neglecting personal chores and such. I thought it might take me several weeks to accomplish this goal, but in reality I was able to get just about everything done in about a week or so!

I still cannot get over how large this new microwave is: Yes, it reminds me of my first computer. Heavy as hell and twice as wide!

I'm not much of a cook, so most of the frozen items and TV dinners were way too big for such a tiny kitchen contraption. In reality, I pretty much heated up four items that I knew would fit (but not all at once), plus I always had to figure out how much extra heating time was required. Such a pain!
