Dylan, I hate to admit this, but I live in the past, too. I always yearn for things to be as they once were. My past was far from being perfect - in fact most of it was agony and turmoil....but I desperately miss my youth, and the optimism that I no longer have.
Jon, I'm the same way. My past was far from ideal, but compared to the present - I was living in Heaven without even knowing it. I still had lots of friends and family (now I have only one friend and no family)and I was innocent enough to believe I would become a famous poet/writer soon enough.
If I had known then what I know now: I would have happily offed myself before I turned thirty. Now I'm too much of a chicken to do the obvious thing...
VERY true words - - although I'm not always content in the present. Perhaps I'm not content anywhere.....
ReplyDeleteMy HUGE mistake is that I live in the past. I just can't seem to let it go...

Well I live in all 3, so where does that put me.
ReplyDeleteThe Twilight Zone :-)
DeleteP.S. That was a joke. Not very many people "get" my humor...
Actually, Mr. Roy - I'd surmise that you have somehow managed to live in a better psychological place than most of us (especially myself!).
