BIRTHDAY SONG: TAKE 2

I hope you're able to hear/see this beautiful tune. Keep me posted!

  1. I finally got to see her in concert in 1985. She's no ugly duckling. Very pretty. She was sweeter than hell to me - signed her new CD and concert stub. Also, told me to keep writing poetry - the world needs much more of that.

  2. Wow, I sure remember that song but haven't heard it in ages. It's great that you actually met her!

  3. It was right after the concert. I wanted to hurry up and leave the hall before everybody else did, so while she was thanking everybody for attending, I went outside hoping to grab a cab. It was a miserable rainy night, so I stood outside for a long while with no luck. Suddenly a cab pulled up, and I was about to get in when I saw Janis Ian and a lady friend also hoping to find a cab.

I told her I'd been a fan since my late teens, and she signed the album and ticket stub I had with me. Then I told her to go ahead and take the cab - I'd happily wait for the next one. Yes, Janis went home in a cab that night. How different from the so-called stars of today.

  4. I loved your response Jon. You helped me to give a bit more background info. I understand how great music helps us to make it through the most difficult days: Classical, Popular, Rock, Folk, Blues, even Country and Western (yeah, I'll fess up to that).

As Janis Ian told me on that quite dark and rainy night - we need more poetry in the world. Period.

And your music is pure poetry...
