I don't get the popularity of Facebook or Twitter. It's all links (no original poetry or writing), and the same thing is going on with the aftermath of the 2016 election. Ten words or less, and we're supposed to believe the intelligence and sincerity of people that don't want (or care) to invest the time in composing a meaningful post?
How much easier to click on a link that makes little or no sense? This is sad. Does anybody do any actual research anymore? Oh, and the whole "Friends" issue: I seem to recall reading a Facebook post about a a fortysomething depressed woman that stated she was going to kill herself.
Guess what, people. Even though she had hundreds of Facebook "Friends" - she was encouraged to take her own life. Which she ultimately did.
Jesus Christ on a cracker: I think I'll stay at Blogger. At least I'll be able to stay alive. At least I hope so.
Hang in there Dylan. You got it right. False friends and false photos. One photo can destroy a thousand truthful words. Last night a Peaceful Portland demonstration message was destroyed by photos of a few broken windows and damaged cars. Local TV pretty truthful and fair. When networks got photos they had the town rioting. A tiny group of anarchists destroyed the efforts of thousands.
ReplyDeleteI was out earlier tonight in downtown Portland, and there was no major damage done. I saw one broken window in Norstrom's (a store I cannot stand), but it was already boarded up.
DeleteMethinks the biased media made much ado about nothing. And Mr. Trump will milk it for all it's worth on Twitter and such - as he will. With the help of a speech writer (of course).
I meant Nordstrom's - my typos are worse tonight than ever!
DeleteTime for a little good music to calm me and the rest of the world down...
There are truly times when I don't want to live any longer. I have my escape plan, and have for years. The one time I honestly attempted suicide would have been successful except for the fact I was interrupted a total of THREE TIMES by visitors to my house. By then, I was pooped out. It takes a lot of built-up adrenaline to follow through. I had it all built up. And the accompanying exhaustion of adrenaline overload made me unable to re-attempt it for the fourth time. The only thing keeping me here is (1) Beau and (2) Joe. Why is Joe coming in second? Because he'd understand, but Beau would keep looking for me and mourn himself into starvation. It's sad when the only thing between life and ending it is a dog, but 200 facebook friends would not be able to talk me into, or out of, suicide. It's an internal thing.
ReplyDeleteDana, I know what you mean: I also have an escape plan, but each time I try to escape from this insane world - somebody always drags me to an emergency room.
DeleteI don't have any family or pets to help me cling to this sorry world, but good friends do make a difference: Roy, Jon, Whisper, you - I thank you all 101 times.
Dylan I agree with everything you said. I have tried Facebook and Twitter and absolutely HATED both of them. I can't understand the inane concept of "tweeting" a few words or posting ENDLESS links.
ReplyDeleteThe nonsense on Facebook actually sickens me. Somebody will post "I ate Cheerios for breakfast" - and they instantly get 200 "Likes" from their Facebook "Friends".
Blogging is MUCH more satisfying.
I've also always disliked the concept of "Friends" and "Followers". I've discontinued the "Followers" thingie that I used to have on my blog sidebar.
I want to thank you for the recent comment you left on my blog about the guy who's been bugging me. Mike is supposedly a retired doctor. He has been ridiculing me and leaving condescending comments on my blog for over a year.
It's probably childish of me to lash out at him, but I can only take so much. I am SICK of his continuous bull crap.
Anyway, thanks for being there, Dylan. We (your "fans") love ya!
Jon, no need to thank me. Mike was behaving like a total jerk, so I spoke up accordingly. I just wish I got to read your personal post to him! Why did you delete it?
DeleteIf it's any consolation, at least nobody has accused you of wanting to screw your cats. Yes, I had somebody once say that to me. And it was not Mike.
Totally agree. Tried it and saw how pathetic and arrogant it is. New here but already love the blogging world. I'd like to follow you but don't see any widget to do so. (Viewing with my phone.) Most bloggers don't have widgets for mobile users (although I do) and I'm not sure why that is.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words. I always just bookmark the blogs I like best. The friends and followers feature is dubious at best :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the Follow feature because it allows me to see all the posts in one place. So much easier to check than going to each blog individually. That's why I made sure to have that option on the mobile view of my blog.
