My sister was a huge fan of this Pop group. She bought all their records. She watched their popular TV show each week. She even signed up for a contest to win a date with Davy Jones!
I liked The Beatles best, and she and I would often argue about why one group was better than the other. I do have one confession: I thought Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith were sexy as hell. I didn't really know what sexy meant (I was only eight years old), but their deep voices and handsome faces always made me feel all tingly inside.
And this is their greatest song I still want to get up and dance around to big time...
Pretty crazy, huh?
P.S. Takes a few seconds for the video to start - but it does start. Don't let the alarming darkness get to you...
I was never a huge fan of the Monkees, but I suppose I was a moderate fan. I did watch their TV show. And - I'll admit it - I had a crush on Peter Tork.
ReplyDeleteI was never a fan of the Monkees - I was a fan of Peter Tork: I liked his wit and he was easy on the eyes without half trying :-)
ReplyDeleteI loved them - the world needs a bit of pop silliness every now and then :-)
ReplyDeleteLisa, Andy Warhol would agree with you big time. Often the best approach to life is stop taking it so seriously :-)
ReplyDeleteI liked the Monkees and Beatles okay, I suppose, but I was never a big fan. Some Beatles songs have outstanding lyrics, but I always thought of them as a "white bread and mayo" kinda group. The pop music I listened to most often back then was the Doors and the Rolling Stones. (Still do listen to them!)
ReplyDeleteHave a super weekend. Thanks so much for the nice comment you left on my blog yesterday. Since a new post came out today, I darned near missed it!
Susan, as I got older I was more into the Doors, Janis Joplin, Rolling Stones, etc. Hell, I even became fond of Beethoven and Mozart! You have great taste in music!
ReplyDeleteThanks. You, too. My tastes are rather eclectic, to say the least. I love opera, classical music, folk music, rock, you name it. Anything but rap. (Except for "Parents Just Don't Understand." That's a hoot!) When our kids were growing up, on New Year's Eve, our family would shoot pool and listen to music. We took turns choosing the next music selection. Opened my mind to a lot of music I might not have otherwise heard. Believe it or not, it turned me into a fan of the Nine Inch Nails! (But, shhhhh. Don't tell anyone...)
DeleteHave a terrific weekend.
I remember the Nine Inch Nails! And the Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, and the immortal Kurt Cobain (Nirvana). I also love a lot of folk music: Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, etc. However, I've always been a terrible pool player. You are a woman of many talents! Hope your weekend is one of the best ever.
DeleteOur daughter and younger son listened to all of those groups, but for some reason, the Nine Inch Nails is the only one of them I still listen to. Some of their lyrics are vile, but I love their beat and angsty sound. As for folk music, in the sixties, I was one of those long straight-haired blondes with a guitar slung on her back. Never a hippie, but I would've LOVED to go to Woodstock. But by that time, it wan't an option, because I was already married, and my hubby was in Vietnam.
DeleteHave a great rest of the weekend. My hubby and I still shoot pool every Sunday. :)
Susan, don't get me started on Woodstock! I'd sell my soul twice to have been there. I was still only seven, but their were plenty of children with their parents enjoying such a heaven on earth. Even the heavy rains could not stop such a paradise of music and souls. Well, at least we will always have the movie :-)
ReplyDeleteYep. And the movie's pretty doggone awesome. :)
DeleteJanis gave it a 2 thumbs down. But she was not in the original theatrical version (due to crazy musical copyrights, etc.) Now you can see the entire show on YouTube. She's not at her best, but she's still Janis :-)
